Bloggers’ Conference – August 20-21

In an attempt to  support Ukrainian bloggers, the city government of Odessa decided to hold a national conference this weekend.

On Friday, August 20th and Saturday, August 21st, the bloggers’ conference “Odessa Camp 2010″ will be held in the City Council and other locations of Odessa.

The press-conference is to be held 2 days earlier, on August 18th.

The aim of the conference is to discuss the ways bloggers and mass media representatives can affect the image of Odessa.

Odessa Hotels Score Highest

Odessa hotels have scored the highest in Ukrainian architecture rating.

The city’s “London” and “Red” hotels are believed to be the most beautiful buildings in Odessa and Ukraine. The London hotel is the oldest one in the city and is famous for its vistors, the list of which includes Nikita Mikhalkov, Oleg Yankovsky, Mark Zaharov, and Marcello Mastroianni.

The Red Hotel, previously known as Bristol, hosted Henri Barbusse, James Oldridge and Theodore Herman Albert Dreiser.

Archeology – August 14

On August, 14th, Odessa is to hold traditional youth festival in Shevchenko Park.

The festival is called “Archeology” and aims to examine various ethnicities. Local games, concerts and master classes will be held in tehe framework of the festival.

The event will start at 11 a.m. and will last till 10 p.m.

Book Fair – August 19-21

Odessa, Ukraine plans to hold the International Book Fair on August 19-21. The Green Wave Fair will be held on Deribasovskaya street.

Let us remind that 2010 is the 14th consecutive year that Ukraine hosts this event, which aims to unite readers, sellers and publishers.

Sand Fantasy – August 8

On Sunday, August 8th, Odessa will host an event “Sandy Fantasy.”

It will be held at Langeron beach from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The focal point of the event will be the construction of sand statues, which will be carried out by participants from 10-30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4-30 p.m.

G. Pavlyuk Exhibition – July 28

Yesterday, on July 28th, the personal exhibition of Galina Pavlyuk was introduced to Odessa City Hall.

The grand opening took place at 12 a.m. in the foyer of the building.

Over 20 pieces of work created during the year of 1989-2009 are presented at the exhibition, which will last till August, 18.

Odessa visitors and citizens are invited to attend the exhibition.

XIV International Books Fair – August 19-21

International Books Fair “The Green Wave” will be held in Odessa, Ukraine on August 19-21.

This traditional open air fair, held for the fourteenth time on the Deribasovskaya street, is regarded as the major books holiday by the city dwellers.

The aim of this fair is introduce the reading culture to Odessa citizens, attract new authors to the country and share the literary heritage with foreign and local readers.

Global Village Festival – July 28

“Global Village” – international youth cultures; festival is to be held in Odessa in 2 days.

Being a traditional anuual event, this festival aims to teach teenagers overcome language and race barriers.

The beginning of the festival is scheduled at July 28th, 2 p.m, Kulikovo Field. The approximate closing time is 10 p.m.

Salsa on the Beach Opening

Let us remind that today, on July 23 the grand opening on the international dance festival “Salsa on the Beach” will take place on Odessa Golden Shore beach at 11 a.m.

It is being held with the support of Odessa City Council and Cuba Association.

J. Ostrovsky Exhibition – July 22-August 24

On July 22nd, Odessa Museum of Contemporary Art will host an exhibition  of Joseph Ostrovsky, which will last till August 24th.

The works presented at the exhibition are originally owned by private collectors and Odessa museums.

The exhibition will also feature Joseph’s biography and press releases associated with his work.
