Kavun Won the “Golden Duke” Award

The “Golden Duke” Award will leave Odessa, Ukraine, for Russia.

The jury of the international movie festival unanimously ageed to name the film “Persons under 16…” by Andrey Kavun the winner of the festival.

Let us remind that the first international movie festival was held in Odessa for 9 days (July 16-24).

Short Movies Festival in Odessa

Saturday, June 19th, and Sunday, June 20th, are the last days of International Short Movie Festival that is held in Odessa, Ukraine.

This year, the “New Horizons. Spirit of Time” festival is being held for the second time.

More than 30 movies in such genres as art house, comedy, satire, etc., will be shown in just 3 days at Odessa Cinema Studio.

On Sunday the award ceremony will take place.

Odessa to Host Intern’l Movie Festival

International Movie Festival will be held in Odessa, Ukraine on July 16-24th.

The opening ceremony of the festival will be held on Friday, July 16th, in Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. The following 8 days will see various foreign movies shown in Odessa cinema theaters.

The closing ceremony and the award ceremony will be held on July 24th in Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.

The major aims of the festival are to promote Ukrainian art and cinematography as well as to introduce the city to foreign cultures.

CinemaHall Introduced to Odessa

On Friday, June 4th, the new project has been introduced in Odessa, Ukraine. The movie studio, called CinemaHall, which has already been introduced to 5 Ukrainian cities, has been open in Odessa Culture Center.

This non-commercial project aims to educate children and adults interested in film-making and cinematography.

“The Meek” to Be Played in “Vykhod”

On Sunday, March 14th, art-cafe “Vykhod” (Exit) will host a premier of a theatrical movie “The Meek,” based upon a novel by F.M. Dostoevsky. The theatrical movie, directed by N. Knyazeva, featuring S. Markov and S. Sokour, and composed by S. Mikhailenko, will start at 19.00 at 24, Bunin street.

Jewish Movie Festival to be Held in Odessa

Festival of contemporary Jewish cinema will take place in Odessa on March 15-18th. According to the organizers of the festival – Jewish Cultural Center – Israeli cinema is now in a unique state, being young and light.

The four movies that will be shown in the course of the festival are:

- “Noodle” (2007), directed by Ayelet Menahemi

- “Someone to Run With” (2006), directed by Oded Davidoff

- “Waltz with Bashir” (2008), directed by Ari Folman

- “Jellyfish” (2007), directed by Etgar Keret.
